Someone got an A in marketing

Photobucket

What? They have invented lettuce that tastes like butter?

Seriously what more could you ask for. I'm totally sold.

On a whim

The other day I was perusing the aisles of the local IFA looking for something that I can't remember when I came across their seed selection.

I spotted these.

Designer pumpkins.

I adore decorating for Fall. Last year I came across these lovely grown pumpkins and was appalled at how much they wanted for them. I selected a few to buy and I remember thinking to myself then that I should look into growing these next year.

I had totally forgot about that thought until now. So I grabbed them, a starter seed growing kit and planted away.

They are growing very well, basking in the sun on my window sill. In fact they have taken off faster than I anticipated. I have already re-potted them and have a mini-greenhouse for them right now. In another month, out they will go in my yard!

Today I kept my cool...

when I caught Chasey with my box cutter scratching wood in the house

when Taylor tried to repeatedly convince me that cleaning his room did not include vacuuming

when I caught Chasey purposely stepping on dog poo outside

when Bennett had a fit about practicing piano

when I found 2 bags worth of unpopped popcorn in the carpet

after Chasey broke one of our movie DVDs

after I told Owen no less than 3 times to stop using the roll of batting as a missile at the fabric store

Eggs and Avocados

Photobucket

The other day I was reading a book and I came to a part where the main character was eating scrambled eggs with chopped up avocados. It intrigued me.

I've never thought of combining those 2 ingredients before. I like scrambled eggs. I like avocados. I am not revolted at the thought of putting those two things together, so I might as well try it.

So one afternoon I decided to give it a go. I chopped up a little bit of onion and cooked it in some butter. I scrambled some eggs and added cheese at the end. I happened to have some tortillas on hand so I decided to make it into a burrito. After putting the eggs onto the tortilla I chopped up the avocado and put it on top.

And you know what? I liked it. The two tastes and textures go very well with each other. It is a mild tasting meal, but tasty and I would say comforting. Scott liked it as well, but he decided to add some salsa to his. Next time you have a few avocados that need to be used, give it a try with or without a tortilla. You may just like it.

Now I understand

Don't you hate it when you have a guest in your house who suddenly asks if they can use your not-so-fresh bathroom? Why is it that it never happens the day that you have just cleaned? It is always multiple days out. Oh I hate it.

After that question comes all of a sudden I panic.

Crap. (No pun intended.) When was the last time I looked in that bathroom?
Oh please let there be nothing in the toilet. Or on the walls. Or in the sink.
Is there even toilet paper in there?

I really want to just ask them if they can hold it a bit longer, but I do have some manners. Instead I tell them where to find the bathroom with a warning that I can't guarantee cleanliness. Because I usually can't.

I can go in there and scrub the whole place down, turn my back around and within minutes it's an embarrassment again.

Way back when I lived with my parents, I remember my mom cleaning the guest bathroom a day before a party or get together of some sort. She would then put a sign on the door that would say something like this:

Enter. And Die.

I always laughed and thought that was a little extreme. Now I understand.

I did the same thing on Saturday before Bennett's baptism. I have learned that it only takes one boy going in one time and throwing his own little "pee party" to turn a clean guest-ready bathroom into a disgusting mess.
