My summer schedule

This is how far I've gotten in coming up with a summer schedule.  You know.  To make sure the boys are reading 30 minutes every day, doing meaningful jobs and setting goals to ensure that they will grow up to be responsible adults. All that good stuff I'm supposed to be doing as their parent.

I've done nothing.  Wait.  I take that back.  I found last summer's job chart, turned it to the blank side and hung it on my white board, fully intending to make a new one.

It just hasn't happened yet.  One thing after the next has interrupted my great plan.  We are now close enough to our Alaska trip that it just doesn't make sense to start one now.  I'll just put it off until July. I'm all about procrastinating.

June so far

Getting Taylor ready for Helaman's Camp

On our Ward committe, prepping for a home makeover for a refugee family.  Mailbox will be replaced along with a whole host of other improvements.

Taylor getting his wisdom teeth out.  What you are looking at is an ice pack.

My peach tree has borers!  Of course they would.  I haven't done a single thing to prevent them.  Now, my trees are suffering and I'm trying to save them.

How can you see this and not buy it?  Honestly, I was kind of embarrassed checking out.    Did they taste good?  Not really.  Sour cream and onion with a hint of sausage.  Not a winner.

Getting Bennett ready for Scout Camp.  He needs 2 types of Scout shirts, plus don't forget all the junk food he wants to take up.  I think that's all they eat up there.

Signing 3 of the 4 boys up for soccer next year.  Didn't we just finish?  Signing up includes uploading pictures and birth certificates and paying a lot of money.

Taylor took the ACT for the first time.  There is a very loose bet going around the house about what we would give him if he beats his father's score on the first try. I'm quite curious.

Attending the Charity Vision Fight Night.  Who knew boxing could be so entertaining, especially when you are hanging with your friends!

And last but not least, prepping for our 2 week vacation to Alaska.  We loved Banff so much a few years ago, we decided to head north again, this time just a bit further.

Memorial Day Weekend = Firsts

First time using the fireplace.  It worked and the cabin didn't burn down.  Hooray!

First time using the hot tub.  Taylor even got the sound system going.

First time inviting family up to stay with us.

First time taking a ride in our new RZR's.

So excited to start hanging out up there!

First night in the cabin!

We are still finishing off a few things, but are slowly moving in.  We have mattresses!  That's all that matters!

I don't get it

The second the weather warms up to 65 degrees I shed my shoes and socks and exclusively wear flip flops the rest of the summer.  My boys can't seem to make the transition.  They will either go barefoot, or, more often than not, just choose to wear socks wherever they go.  We have a whole basket full of flip flops and yet they can't seem to find some to wear.

The other day, Chase had put on his socks and couldn't find his shoes.  I got after him and told him to just wear flip flops.  My assumption was that he would take off the socks first.  Nope.  He just put the flip flops on with the socks and off to the store we went.

I don't understand.

Really?

Stuff like this kills me.  You can't throw it 6" further to actually make it in the dirty clothes basket?  Come on, boys.  Work with me here.

Soccer season - Done!

Don't have a picture of Taylor's team, but he played on the Lone Peak provisional team this spring and did great.  I think he is the tallest on his team.

Owen's team did awesome, winning their league and coming in 2nd in the Championship round.

Bill Jr.

The other day, Owen came home with a goldfish from school.  They had had a market day and some kid had brought goldfish to sell.  What kind of parent would buy goldfish for their kid to sell?  I'm baffled.  I wasn't particularly thrilled at this new pet, but pulled down my fancy crystal bowl that Scott and I got for a wedding present.  We have never used it, so it may as well be a temporary home for the fish until it died.

Owen wouldn't leave the poor thing alone and kept adding Lego trees etc. to the water to make it more homey for Bill Jr.  Lucky for me, it died within a couple of days.

Not too sad about that.

Darning his own socks

The other day, I found Owen in my laundry room trying to darn his beloved Stance socks.  He had pulled out my sewing box and taken out a needle and thread.  Not knowing what to do next, he resorted to his my beloved standby - tape.  He then taped the thread to the needle and was trying to sew the holes when I walked in.  Nice try Owen!

Perhaps in the future, wearing shoes with your socks will help in preventing the holes.  Just a suggestion.
