Bali Ha'i

Ever watch Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical South Pacific? Back when we had no kiddos Scott and I went to see it at the Sundance outdoor theater. In it there is a song titled Bali Ha'i. Whenever I think of the island, Bali in Indonesia, I automatically think of this song. Now this song may or may not have anything to do with this island, but for me the name means a connection. Here are a few of the lyrics to this song.

Bali Ha'i may call you,
Any night, any day,
In your heart, you'll hear it call you:
"Come away...Come away."

10 days on a beach in Bali with a pile of books to read sounds just about right. I think Bali is definitely calling me.

"Here am I, your special island!
Come to me, come to me!"

Really how could you not come with a song so enticing as this?

On a whim

Poor Chasey doesn't get much when it comes to new duds. He gets all the old stuff that has gone through 3 other boys. Only when the clothes are so worn and stained or I can't stand to look at them anymore do I go out and buy him a few things. This is what happens when you are the youngest. The other day I was at one of my new favorite stores and I saw these shoes. I thought they were so cute and reasonably priced, so without a second thought I bought them.

Cute huh?

After several attempts, this was the best picture I could get with Chase wearing them. I think they look extra cute with little baby toes peeking out.

This is the extent of cuteness at our boy-filled house. I take what I can get.

A True Kimball

For those of you who don't know any Kimballs let me explain a few traits about them.

1. They enjoy neatness and order.

2. They do not like to waste.

Now I am not making fun of these traits. They are highly desirable traits. You see I married one of these Kimballs and I have the perfect picture that clearly shows these 2 traits.

This is the Kimball here. And what is he doing? Well he is trying to produce order in a mess of cut up trees. About a week ago there were some trees next door to us that where cut down, hacked up and all the limbs were pushed into one great big pile. Before the hacking started Scott went over and cut down some pieces of wood for his Dad, but he couldn't stop there. For the next 4 nights he went out and cut and sorted wood to his heart's content. "There is perfectly good wood here" He says to me. My reply to him is "Scott, this isn't even our wood. You don't have to do this." Never the less he cuts and cuts and sorts and sorts until he ends up with this.

2 piles of stumps sorted according to size.

Longer limbs that have been sorted according to the type of tree that was cut down. A pile of cherry limbs and a pile of pine limbs. The unmanageable part of the tree is also sorted and somehow subdued into its own neat pile. Excuse me I have been corrected by Kimball himself. There is actually a fourth pile of apple tree limbs as well.

As Kimball has pointed out to me "It's a disease. I can't help myself." I would say that it is not a disease, it is genetic. And yes he cannot help himself.

Spring Break

This week my kids have been out of school for spring break. In my effort to entertain them and to complete a requirement for Taylor's Faith in God award we headed up to the church museum. Now I figured this adventure could turn out really good or really bad. But fortunately for us it was a great day. We wandered around the museum and Owen only touched one priceless painting with his grimy hands. That is saying something.

The museum has a hands-on child's area where we spent most of the time.

After the museum we wandered around Temple Square a bit, hung out with some missionaries and watched a video at the visitors center. All the boys were well behaved for the entire 15 minutes. Now that is saying something!

"Hey boys, go over there and I will take your picture."

This is very difficult to get them in the same picture frame let alone see all of their faces. This was the best that I could do given the 3 seconds I had before Chasey bolted for the nearest planting bed.

"Taylor hurry and take a picture of me and Bennett."

Again, this picture is far from great, but at least it is proof that I accompanied them.

After Temple Square we ran over to grab some lunch at the Lion House Pantry. All of the boys were well behaved except for Chasey who refused to sit in a high chair. That is no different than when we are at home, so I don't know why I even bothered to try.

So all in all it was great. The boys had a good time and they behaved. Which means I had a good time too! What more could you ask for?
