I put out this little wooden Christmas tree/advent calendar that has 24 lights hanging on it. Every day you turn over a light. The tree even comes with wooden presents that sit underneath it. I cleverly put it on my end table far enough away from Chasey's hands...or so I thought. Between him pulling, tip toeing and pushing he has managed to get at most of the lights and the presents. After 4 days of fishing the lights out of his mouth and picking them up off the ground I put that one away too. "Maybe next year" I tell myself.
This Santa and sleigh set we inherited from Scott's parents. It is made entirely out of porcelain. I have never put it out because one, I have never had a decent place to put it and two, just breathing on it causes pieces to break off. This year I decided to be brave and put it out on my mantle far away from Chasey's little hands. I am just about to put it away. After seeing various object fly across the room out of the corner of my eye and watching the daily wrestling matches around here I am thinking that one little tremor or one ball even near this set will blow it to smithereens. Then I will have to explain to Scott's parents why the Santa they have kept in one piece all of these years has now lost his head and why his reindeer have no more antlers. I'm pretty sure that when we inherited these, we did not have 4 boys in the house. I'm also pretty sure that if Scott's parents really knew the extent of the chaos around here they would have never given them to us.
And yes you don't need to tell me that the reindeers are suppose to be pulling the sleigh, not pushing it. I am proud of myself that it only took me 4 days to realize what I had done.
May all your decorations stay in one piece and in one place! For me... maybe next year.

Those crazy gorgeous hand-made stockings are all you need to spruce up the whole house. I still covet them every single year.
This was a very funny blog. Reminds me of how many years we had the cheapest, most kid-proof decorations money could buy. Our house always looked half done. Just keep reminding yourself, it's a season to be cheerful, have fun, and instill great traditions. The boys won't even remember that beautiful porcelain reindeer set. You'll have to give it to an appreciative daughter in law someday.
I totally agree with you Tiers. I am about ready to take down the Christmas tree. We got it all up and decorated so pretty. Then the next day it was kids running away from other kids, and Isaac took a face plant right into it. So we redid the tree, but we had to turn it to hide the roken branches. Then the dogs decided it was their personal chew toy while we were gone grocery shopping, and tore off the bottom branches. Then the cat decided it needed a higher hiding place away from the dogs, and took refuge in the top branches of the tree, and with it decided to play with the tinsel, and tore it to shreds. I keep telling myself keep it up, and then laugh at it, but like you I keep telling myself maybe next year we can keep the tree nice. Heres hoping. Hope you have a very merry christmas. We love you guys.
Sounds so familiar. Little boys are so much mischief. Good thing your boys are so cute!
There will be plenty of years for the perfect decoration set up. Enjoy that busy little boy.
Sadly I don't have the patience that you do and this year I officially left 1/3 of it in the box. I didn't want to bother with the insanity. Amy love to remove the entire lower strand of wooden cranberries on ours to wear it around the house like a necklace.
Christmas isn't about the decorations anyway right? We have that problem too. We get done decorating and the kids feel like they have to move them around a billion times. Soon they'll be all grown and we'll miss these things.
