We had already learned how to make clam shell boxes and this is just a variation. Not only can you have a handbound book, you can make a custom size box that matches your book. This one was a little tricky to do. I had it 90% done and my book wouldn't fit inside. I had to rip off the ends and redo them. But it was worth it.
Would you like to see inside? I will show you.
You untie the bow and the box completely unfolds. Love it!
This book is made with a blue/gray suede leather. I made the clasp by wrapping leather cord with waxed linen thread, the same thread I used to sew the book.
This is called a long-stitch, link-stitch sewing. I love spines with exposed sewing.
My first page matches my box. Or should I say my box matches my book. I am all about matching.
This is not just a plain book. I decided to make a gratitude journal. After hearing this talk from Elder Eyring, I have always wanted to do this. I have included about 5 quotes on gratitude throughout the book. This scripture is on the second page.
This is not part of my final, but another gratitude journal I put together. Same quotes on the inside. Plainer, but I love it just as much. This will probably end up as a gift at some point for someone.
I'm itching to do another one!

Geez a loo, lady--that's pretty stuff. You've got a way with the needles and thread and leather and such. They're just beautiful.
What a fun skill. I love the box and matching and all that. That's a cool idea too for a gratitude journal.
Tiera, this is very beautiful and elegant. A true work of love and artist talent. And I love the matching stuff, which of course, Scott would say you inherited from your mother!
I love it! You are so talented! I'm proud of you!
This is soooooo beautiful. You have outdone yourself. You are so talented.
Me thinks you should open an etsy store and sell these for hundreds of dollars. What beautiful works of art!
I agree with Cari, these look like something super professional that people would pay lots of money for! What an amazing talent you have. Your books look so beautiful I'd be scared to touch them!
How long does it take to make your books?
What an amazing talent you have learned
Also I loved your family christmas letter
Wow! They are beautiful, simply amazing! What an amazing talent. I want to know how long it took you to do those too.
For my final project I was required to put in 13 hours. I did that easily with my blue book and box. However, this was a new stitch a new box and I have never worked with leather before. I also did a mock up of the book before I actually made it, which took quite a bit of time. I'm sure that the next time I make one of these it will take significantly less time.
Wow! Impressive! Admirable! Wow! Creative! Beautiful! Wow! When do you do this????? How do you mother and create? I've put ALL my hobbies on the back burner and you're making beautiful, amazing books with matching boxes. Wow!! I miss my craft buddy!
