And Then He Was Done

My little sock sucker is no longer sucking socks. It's true.

About a month ago I started talking to him about turning 4 and that 4 year olds are big boys and don't suck socks. He readily agreed and with my help decided that on his birthday he would give all of his socks to his baby cousin Barrett.

The day arrived and he took one last suck and then happily packed them in a Ziploc bag and gave them away.

That evening right before he went to bed he asked Scott for a sock. Scott told him that he was 4 now and that he gave them away. Chasey agreed and accepted the fact that they were gone.

And that was it. Easy. I knew it wouldn't be hard. Part of me is glad he is done, but another part of me is sad. It really was the last baby thing that he did. He is a big boy now.

Chase only preferred to suck on Old Navy socks. Nothing else would work.
He would only suck on them when he was tired.
He would tri-fold a sock and then feed it into his mouth.
He would only suck a sock for a little while. When he was done he would take it out of his mouth and throw it on the floor and get another one. He would not put a wet sock back into his mouth. It had to be dry. Needless to say it was not uncommon to step on wet socks throughout the house. He wasn't opposed to sucking on a sock that had been wet and was now dried.
Every morning he would wake up and collect all the socks around the house that he had sucked on and carry them around for awhile.
Such a quirky habit I must say!

That gave me a laugh. I've never seen a kid do that before, so original. It is sad when they grow up, but I'm sure you'll all get great laughs out of those pictures of him the older he gets.

Truly unique. I love that you wrote down all the details so you can remember. What a funny kid.
