It Happened

Just one day shy of his eleventh birthday.

Taylor telling me on the way to school that on your birthday during lunch the entire cafeteria will sing to you.

Me thinking to myself that maybe I will check him out at lunch time and take him to lunch.

Me: "Taylor what time is your lunch?"

Taylor thinking I am going to come to the cafeteria: "No that's o.k. you don't have to come."

Me: "What?"

Taylor rather emphatically: "Not that's o.k. you don't have to come. That is embarrassing."

My son is embarrassed by my presence. :(

Oh, I'm so sorry. It's a sad sad day. But soon enough he will come crying back to you when he falls and hurts himself. He's still not too old to want mom for other important things. Your a great mom. I sent him a birthday gift in the mail. He should get it tomorrow on his birthday. Have a great day with him.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. That plunge from being queen to being the hidden Nanny is a scary drop. Just keep in mind that he respects the dickens out of you and it will all come back as soon as he marries and finds out you're pretty awesome after all.
