He's Walking!

Chasey has been working on his walking skills for about a month, but today we hit a milestone. He is actually preferring to walk instead of crawl. Instead of crawling to his destination after he falls down, he will now push himself up and keep walking. Yeah!

Football on the Brain

Place: My kitchen
People: Me and Taylor
Situation: Making a chocolate pie for tonight. Me, realizing that we have a lot of extra dough left, thinking it would be a good idea to make cinnamon and sugar turnovers for the boys.
Mom to Taylor: Do you know what a turnover is?
Taylor: An interception or a fumble.
Me: After 10 seconds of confusion starts to laugh.

No Taylor, this kind of turnover.

Summer Recipes?

Anyone have any kid friendly, cool dinner recipes? I am in no mood to serve hot meals but do not know what else to make (other than standard sandwiches). If you have any winners let me know!

Caught giggling

Last weekend we went camping. While enjoying the great outdoors I caught Bennett giggling. This is somewhat of a refreshing noise for me to hear. Most of the time I only hear yelling, screaming, punching and shooting noises.

So I took a picture.

And then I took another since he hadn't caught me yet.

And another

As soon as he saw the camera, the laughter stopped and the goofiness began.

Silly kid.

The logic of a three year old

Picture One:
This is Owen right before we hopped into the van to go to the Oquirrah Mtn temple open house. He is happy right now, but while I was getting him dressed he was very distressed. He didn't like what he was wearing. "Mom I look stupid. Mom I look funny." I had to reassure him many times that he looked just fine.

Picture two:
I send Owen outside to play with clothes on. Several minutes later I look out to check on him and he has stripped down naked and is frolicking about pretending to be a caveman.

Now does this make any sense at all? He is upset that he looks stupid and funny in his church clothes, but has no problem whatsoever running around buck naked in the back yard.

I am in love

I never have been in love with an appliance until now. When we started building our new house and picking out appliances, Scott suggested that we get an induction cook top instead of a gas or electric. Scott is somewhat of a kitchen gadget nerd so I wasn't surprised that he wanted to try this new fangled (at least in the states) appliance. I am willing to try something new so I agreed.

By looking at it, it looks just like a flat top electric cook top (I can't say this out loud or it might hear me, get offended and not cook for me for weeks.) It is far from it. It uses an electromagnetic field to heat your pots. "What on earth did she just write." you say? I have no idea what I just said. I just pretend to know how it works. All I know is it works like absolute magic. If you want a clear explanation from someone that knows what they are talking about go here.

To start out it has the responsiveness of gas and the easy clean up of a flat top electric. However that is just the beginning. It boils water SOOO fast. I am amazed. I put water on to boil for mac and cheese, turn around to do something else and then before I expect it to be boiling it is.

And when I need a lower temp, I dial it down and Viola, the heat is gone - just like gas. But it is even better. I have always found that gas cook tops struggle to cook without boiling on their lowest setting. Either it boils or it is not hot enough. Not here. It cooks perfectly at every level. You can even melt chocolate without a double boiler.

It only heats the pots and not the cook top itself. So when something spills, you can wipe it up immediately and not have to wait until it cools down. Yes, it does get hot, but it is only the pot that is hot which in turn transfers some of its heat back onto the cook top. Did I mention it is a bit magical? Love it! Love it! Love it!

To sum it up, it makes gas cook tops hang their heads in shame and electric ones look downright archaic. Don't believe me? Stop by and I will oh so happily give you a demonstration!

Happy Birthday Little Cub!

Chasey decided that for his birthday he wanted to hike up to Timpanogos Cave. We packed up our water, granola bars and jackets and headed out bright and early this morning.

All the boys thought the hiking was great, especially Chasey since he got to ride all the way to the top. We cut him a little slack since he hasn't quite figured out the walking thing yet.

Camera comes out......goofiness begins

And on a completely different note. Bennett's hair color is a delicious caramel color. I have affectionately been calling him "caramel head" lately. He is so sweet and tolerates it very well.

Back to cave talk.

Everyone was impressed with the cave, except Chasey. He reminded us that it was his nap time and he was ready to take it. So Scott and I took turns discreetly cramming bits of granola bar into his mouth to keep him quiet during the tour. We were specifically told at the beginning of the tour not to eat in the cave, but we figured everyone would be a lot more happy if they didn't have to hear him screaming at the top of his lungs for an hour. Luckily no one kicked us out of the cave or locked us in. Just a little reminder that he is one and this is what one year olds do.

Later that evening we continued the celebration with chocolate cake everywhere.

I love you my little cub!
